What you can post on RequestX
RequestX is for neighbors helping neighbors with everyday jobs. Most jobs are fine. A few kinds of work need special licenses, permits or insurance, so we keep them off RequestX for now. Here's what you can and can't post.
At a glance
- You can post now: dog walking and pet drop-ins, moving help (labor only), small repairs under $1,000 with no permit, yard work, furniture assembly, photography, tech support and everyday local help.
- Coming soon: errands & local delivery (including item pickups and drop-offs), house-sitting and home cleaning.
- Not available yet: passenger rides, and tutoring and lessons (coming later).
- Not at launch: licensed contractor work (repairs of $1,000 or more, or that need a permit).
- Not offered: child sitting and elder sitting.
Looking for child or elder sitting? See jobs we don't offer. Rides aren't available yet, home cleaning is coming soon, and tutoring and lessons are coming later.
More on each: Jobs we don't offer. If a job like these is posted, it won't go live. Your account is never affected.
Errands & local delivery — coming soon
Errands & local delivery isn't open yet, and neither are item pickups and drop-offs under Local assistance. Until it opens, those jobs won't go live. We'll update this page when it does.
When it opens, these limits will apply:
For your own pickups, drop-offs, and errands. Items must fit in a regular car: no furniture or appliances (use Moving help for those). No business deliveries, passengers, alcohol, cannabis, prescriptions, weapons, or hazardous items.
- Picking up or dropping off your own things that fit in a regular car (store pickups, returns, donations, marketplace pickups, keys, packages), waiting in line, grocery runs for you, with a specific pickup and drop-off.
- Not allowed: furniture and appliances (post those as Moving help, labor only), deliveries for a business or restaurant, multi-stop routes, regular delivery runs, and carrying alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, prescriptions, weapons, hazardous items or cash.
Rides — not available yet
Rides for pay aren't available on RequestX yet. Driving passengers needs special state permits and insurance.
That includes airport runs, school pickups and rides to appointments. Ride posts won't go live for now. See jobs we don't offer.
Tutoring and lessons (coming later)
Tutoring and lessons aren't available on RequestX yet. We're finishing a legal review first. Until then, these posts won't go live. We'll update this page if that changes.
Pet care — and house-sitting coming soon
In Home services and Local assistance, we ask:
Who or what is this for?
and you pick Pet or Other help. (Home / house-sitting shows up once house-sitting opens.)
- ✅ Pet care: dog walking and drop-in visits, like feeding pets.
- House-sitting is coming soon. When it opens:
> House-sitting and pet care only: pets, plants, mail, and quick check-ins. No overnight stays, and no care of any person, like bathing, dressing, lifting, or giving medication.
Overnight or live-in stays, and chores like cleaning, cooking or laundry, won't be part of it.
- ❌ Child sitting and elder sitting aren't offered on RequestX. Medical or hands-on personal care (bathing, dressing, lifting, giving medication) is never allowed.
Home cleaning — coming soon
Home cleaning isn't open yet. It turns on once a legal review is done. Until then, cleaning jobs won't go live.
Handyman and home repairs — small jobs only
Small repairs only, under $1,000 total (labor + materials) with no building permit. Bigger or permitted jobs need a licensed contractor.
- ✅ Mounting, patching, swapping fixtures, fixing furniture, assembly, caulking and small installs — when job pay + materials is under $1,000 and no building permit is needed.
- ❌ For now, you can't post repair jobs of $1,000 or more (labor + materials) or jobs that need a building permit. That includes structural work, roofing, electrical panels or new circuits, gas lines, plumbing changes, HVAC or water heater installs — and splitting one project into smaller jobs.
- Splitting one project into smaller jobs isn't allowed, no matter who posts them or which helpers do them.
- When you post a repair, we ask "Who's buying materials?" — I'll buy them or Helper includes them in the price. Materials always count toward the $1,000 limit. Details: Why can't I post a bigger repair job?
- Why? See Why can't I post a bigger repair job?
Moving help — labor only
Moving help is labor only: loading, unloading, packing, and moving things inside a home. Helpers can't haul your belongings to another place in their own vehicle. Rent a truck or use a licensed mover.
When you post, we ask "Who's providing the truck?" — I rented one, a moving company, or no truck needed. Helpers can't bring a truck to haul your things.
Everything else
Yard work, furniture assembly, dog walking, photography, tech support and everyday local help work as usual (item pickups and drop-offs are coming soon). If a "Local assistance" job turns into one of the kinds above, those limits apply.
What happens if something gets flagged
We check job titles and descriptions for a few words that often mean a job isn't allowed. If yours matches, you'll see:
Some of this might be outside what RequestX allows ({reason}). Edit it, or post anyway and we'll take a quick look first.
A person reviews it, usually within 1 business day. We might approve it, move it to a better category, ask you to edit it, or let you know it can't go live. Your account is never affected — we only look at the job post. Plenty of flagged jobs are fine and get approved.
For helpers
- You set your own price, choose your jobs, and use your own tools and methods.
- Some categories ask you to confirm a few things the first time you offer (and once a year after).
- In Handyman and Home services, every helper's profile and offers show "Not a licensed contractor". RequestX doesn't handle licensed contractor jobs yet, so there's no way to change that line for now.
- Each Handyman or Home services offer asks you to confirm: "No permit is required and the total is under $1,000."
- > Tip: RequestX doesn't provide insurance for helpers. Many helpers carry general liability insurance, and business-use auto coverage if they drive for jobs.
